OpenAI Unveils ‘Deep Research’: AI Agent That Matches Human Analysts

OpenAI has introduced Deep Research, a new AI agent designed for large-scale research, capable of analyzing vast amounts of data in minutes. Powered by the latest o3 model, Deep Research aims to assist professionals in finance, science, and engineering by synthesizing information from multiple online sources into comprehensive reports.

According to OpenAI, Deep Research accomplishes in 10 minutes what would take a human hours, making it a powerful tool for in-depth analysis. The AI agent, available in ChatGPT’s Pro tier ($200/month), will initially be limited to 100 queries per month due to high processing costs.
Deep Research also made headlines by scoring 26.6% in Humanity’s Last Exam, a benchmark for AI reasoning, outperforming previous models. However, OpenAI emphasizes that human oversight is still crucial, as AI-generated reports can contain errors.

This release follows OpenAI’s recent Operator AI agent, which assists with online tasks like shopping and reservations. With competition heating up, especially from China’s DeepSeek, OpenAI is rapidly expanding its AI ecosystem to maintain its lead in the industry.
