Fleabane

Controlling Fleabane in any crops

No matter which variant, control them.

Erigeron canadensis

Erigeron canadensis is an annual, herbaceous plant growing to 1.5 metres (5 feet) tall

Erigeron lonchophyllus

Erigeron lonchophyllus is an Asian and North American species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae known by the common name shortray fleabane.

Fleabane includes nearly 390 species within the Erigeron and Conyza genera, with around 170 found in North America. These daisy-like plants thrive in temperate regions and disturbed areas like roadsides and farmlands. While some are native wildflowers, many are invasive, growing quickly and producing up to 120,000 wind-dispersed seeds per plant, allowing them to spread rapidly and complete their lifecycle within a single season.

In North America, fleabane poses a serious threat to crops such as soybeans, corn, and dry beans. Glyphosate-resistant Conyza canadensis is especially problematic, causing significant yield losses—up to 50% in corn and over 70% in dry beans. It competes aggressively for resources and is particularly difficult to manage in no-till systems where soil isn’t disturbed.

Effective control requires a combined approach. Pre-plant herbicides are critical in soybeans, while tank mixes with multiple modes of action improve control in corn. Tillage and cover crops like cereal rye can also suppress its growth and limit seed spread. Fleabane’s adaptability and resistance make it a top concern in modern crop management.
