Back-end Services for Camera-based Motion Capturing
Project Overview
In collaboration with Mohawk College, Saiwa Inc. developed and delivered the Follomotion back-end service suite—an AI-driven camera-based solution enabling motion capture, pose estimation, and calibration for the Follomotion app. The project ran from March 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, and was followed by six months of support and maintenance.
Core Capabilities
Follomotion introduced three specialized services to enhance physical movement tracking and camera optimization:
- Camera Calibration
- Precisely computes intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters to correct lens distortion and align multi-camera systems for accurate tracking.
- Camera Pose Estimation
- Determines real-time orientation and position of cameras within a spatial environment, facilitating proper motion capture, augmented reality alignment, and spatial consistency.
- Capture Service
- Enables real-time image or video capture with integrated calibration and pose data, preparing data streams for downstream processing or user visualization.
Each service was made accessible via the Follomotion platform:

- Pose Estimation: app.follomotion.ca/services/camera-pose-estimation
- Capture: app.follomotion.ca/services/capture

Workflow & Deliverables
- Requirements & Planning
- Coordinated with Mohawk College and Follomotion’s team to define precise technical requirements and interfaces for each service.
- Service Development
- Built and fine-tuned algorithms for calibration, pose estimation, and capture in high-accuracy real-time environments.
- API Integration & Platform Delivery
- Exposed each capability via scalable, secure RESTful endpoints integrated seamlessly into Follomotion's front-end.
- Testing & Validation
- Conducted thorough testing across different camera setups and movement scenarios to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Deployment & Handover
- Launched the services in production at March 31, 2025, along with comprehensive documentation and integration guides.
- Support Phase (Ending September 30, 2025)
Provided ongoing monitoring, maintenance, bug resolution, and feature tuning based on user feedback.

Impact & Benefits
The Follomotion project delivered a significant leap in technical precision for motion tracking applications. By implementing advanced algorithms for camera calibration and pose estimation, the services ensured highly accurate spatial data, which formed a reliable foundation for subsequent analytics and motion insights. This precision not only enhanced the quality of the captured data but also improved the consistency of results across different environments and camera setups.
Another major impact was the creation of a scalable infrastructure tailored to the needs of a growing startup. Saiwa designed the back-end services using an API-first approach, enabling seamless integration with the Follomotion front-end while leaving room for future expansion. This modular design means the platform can easily adapt to evolving requirements, whether through additional features, new devices, or integration with third-party systems.
The project also demonstrated the value of speed and efficiency in development. Within just one month, Saiwa successfully completed and deployed three fully operational services, ensuring that Follomotion could move quickly toward market readiness. The follow-up six-month support phase provided continuity, allowing the startup to address user feedback, refine performance, and gain confidence in the stability of its platform.
Ultimately, the collaboration empowered Follomotion to offer a powerful application capable of real-time motion capture and analysis. This not only improved the functionality and reliability of their app but also positioned them to serve a wider range of users in industries such as sports, fitness, healthcare, and rehabilitation. The project underscored how strategic partnerships, supported by institutions like Mohawk College, can accelerate innovation and bring cutting-edge technologies to practical use.
